GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A Gainesville road will be named for a 19-year-old Marine who was killed in Afghanistan this year.

The city commission on Thursday voted to name Northwest 55th Street in honor of Lance Cpl. Philip P. Clark, who died May 18. The road is near Clark’s high school.

Clark’s father said the honor would “remind people in the future what our military does for our country.”

Clark is buried in Bushnell at Florida National Cemetery. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
